ASTM A29 1140 Steel standard applies to manufacture of bearing ring steel pipe rolling elements made by high-carbon chromium bearing steel processed with hot rolled forged round, cold-rolled, steel wire. Continuous casting steel is not recommended to be the material of balls. Surface Quality, The steel should be processed well, with no folding, cracks, scarring, tearing, inclusions, or other harmful defects on the surface. Cold Drawn (rolled) steel surface should also be clean, without rust. If any such defect is found, the supply-side must remove, and the removal depth should be consistent with the provisions of 5.12.2, 5.12.3, and 5.12.4.

In addition, the majority of that strong carbide or nitride formers produce a small grain size, because their precipitates have a nucleation effect in AISI 1140 Hollow and Bright Round Bars and reduce the growth of crystal during recrystallization of the cooling metal.
